Kentucky, Thoroughbreds and Quillin Leather
Bluegrass, Thoroughbreds and Leather
Kentucky is the heart of America’s horse industry, especially here in the Bluegrass. With so many elite Thoroughbred farms and high-value horses, there’s always been a need for quality handcrafted halters that shows off a horse’s identity and pedigree.
We moved Quillin Leather & Tack in Paris, Kentucky, in 1982 , from a cold tobacco stripping room on the farm. We slowly built on a long local history of Kentucky leatherwork that goes back to the 1800s. We handcraft halters from the best American leather, fitting them with custom brass nameplates. On Central Kentucky farms, they’re not just for looks — the nameplates help staff quickly identify valuable horses — but they’ve also become a mark of pride and tradition.
Over the years, we’ve made halters for champions and Derby winners, and that’s helped make our Kentucky Sale halter a standard across the horse world. For us, it’s about combining craftsmanship, service, practicality, and the special connection people feel for the thoroughbred industry, the Bluegrass and Kentucky’s rich handcrafted traditions.
