We've been making Halters on Main Street in Paris, KY since 1982. And in a farm tobacco stripping room since 1979.

Quillin halters - we  build them, in the same building where we sell them, on Campbell stitcher machines that are older than the people using them. Sixteen craftsmen. English bridle leather. Better than 17,000 halters a year, each one passing through several craftsmen’s hands before it goes out the door.

That means:

• The person who can fix it is the person who made it. No shipping it back to a supplier three states away.

   

• Fit isn't guesswork. A large list of sizes and styles is routine here, not a special order with a six-week wait.

   

• The leather is chosen, Leather that is cut right. Every English finished bridle side is cut into parts. Some thicker at the butt (crowns and noses) some thinned at the shoulder (cheeks and chins). Each part of the hide goes into a specific halter part. Cutting is as much a craft as stitching.

   

• Every halter carries four decades of the same attention to detail. We’ve worked with the same supplier for 20+ years. We don’t shop price, we order quality. We don’t change every few years when cheaper is available somewhere else. The Leather we use is called Q-Tan for a reason!

The Makers Mark Says It All

A halter isn't a decoration. It's on your horse's head every day, holding, catching, sometimes taking real strain from a spooked animal at the worst possible moment. The stitching either holds or it doesn't. There's no version of "close enough" that a horse respects.

That's the actual argument for buying from a shop that makes its own — not tradition for tradition's sake, but accountability. When we sell you a halter, we're not passing along someone else's workmanship and hoping it holds up. It's ours, start to finish. As far as we know there are few other shops whose company name actually belongs to someone in the building - day in day out.

Our philosophy applies across all our leather goods and engraving from our Main Street shop. A belt that last decades not months is a goal, just as a collar crafted to hold a 150 pound Bull Mastiff.
