What "custom" means at Quillin
Size. Ten standard sizes from newborn foal to large mare, plus track sizes. Every halter has its size stamped on the crown, so reordering is easy. See the size chart.
Leather and hardware. Heavy, hand-selected English bridle leather with solid brass hardware. Choose brown and brass or black and silver. Black and brass or brown and silver are available through our custom shop.
The finish. Each halter is stitched on 100+ year old Campbells, then hand-rubbed and dipped in harness oil. It arrives soft and ready to wear, not stiff and coated.
Throat snap. Add an easy-off snap at the throat. It adds 2 inches to the throat length.
Nameplate. Engraved by hand in our shop and riveted with solid copper to the halter. Details below.
Nameplate options
Our plates are solid brass, hand polished, with no lacquer coating. The engraving is cut deep and filled with black enamel so it stays readable for years.

Frequently asked questions
Can I rush an order? Call us at 859-987-0215 before you order. Chances are there are at least 100 halters in front of you. We'll tell you honestly what's possible. If you have delayed ordering till the last minute - we may not be able to help, but we will try.
Can I return a custom halter? Halters with engraved plates, black leather items, and custom colors are made to order and can't be returned. Unused items without engraving can be returned within 14 days for an exchange or store credit. Email us first for a return number.
What if I ordered the wrong size? We can move your plate to a halter in the right size. There's a $30 exchange fee, a $10 fee to move the plate, and return shipping.
What if the nameplate is misspelled? If we made the mistake, we fix it and ship it back free. If the error was in the order, we'll make a corrected plate at cost.
Can I get a replacement nameplate? Yes. We sell engraved plates on their own, and our shop can put a new plate on an old halter. Call us for a quote.
How do I keep the plate looking new? Polish the brass with Brasso or a similar metal polish. If the black enamel wears out of the letters, clean the plate, re-fill the letters with black model paint, and wipe off the extra.
Can you repair an old Quillin halter? Yes. Our shop does full leather repairs. Send us photos or call for a quote.
