Quillin Halters - Worth The Wait

Why Your Custom Halter Is Worth the Wait

There's a reason Quillin Leather & Tack has been the thoroughbred industry's most trusted source for custom halters since 1982. It's not speed — it's the 16 craftsmen at our shop on Main Street in Paris, Kentucky, each one working century-old Campbell stitcher machines with the kind of practiced skill that only comes from years at the bench. When you order a custom halter from us, you're not placing a warehouse pick-and-ship order. You're commissioning something made specifically for your horse

What to Expect When You Order

Most custom halters ship within 14 to 21 business days from the time your order is placed. That window gives our craftsmen the time they need to properly cut, stitch, fit, and finish each piece to our standards — and yours. We produce over 17,000 handcrafted halters a year for customers across the country and around the world, and every single one goes through the same careful process.

    About Custom Name Tags

If you've added a personalized name tag to your order, here's something worth knowing: every engraving job is done in-house, right here in Paris. We don't send that work out. That means you get consistent, quality engraving — but it also means the queue is real. At any given time, we have roughly 100 orders waiting to be engraved. We're proud of that number. It tells us our customers value getting it done right over getting it done fast. Plan accordingly, and your patience will be rewarded.

    Busy Seasons to Plan Around

A few times each year, our shop operates at a pace that even our most seasoned craftsmen feel. If you're placing an order during any of the following windows, we strongly encourage you to build in a few extra days beyond our standard estimate:

    • Keeneland Spring & Fall Meets — The thoroughbred world moves through Lexington, and so do our orders.
    • Kentucky Derby Week — One of the highest-volume stretches of the year, full stop.
    • Thoroughbred Sales Season — Keeneland September, Fasig-Tipton, and the winter sales all bring a surge of last-minute custom orders.
    • Holiday Gift Giving — November and December are busy months for anyone who knows a horse person. If you want a halter or one of our bespoke hand crafted gifts under the tree, order in October.

We'll always communicate with you if your order is running beyond our standard window. You'll never be left wondering.

    The Bottom Line

A Quillin halter is built to outlast your car. The leather is the best available. The stitching is done on machines that were already old when your grandfather was young. The solid brass hardware won't fail you at a sale, or in a stall at 2 a.m. during foaling season.

Quillin Halters - that's not something that comes off an assembly line. It comes from a shop floor in Bourbon County, Kentucky, from people who take their craft seriously.

Order early. Order with confidence. And when your halter arrives, you'll understand why it was worth every day of the wait.
